Last week, after a miserable flight home and a big presentation to a record label, I hit up Zanzibar on the west side for a little Hip Hop relaxation therapy. The homey Eazee was celebrating the one-year anniversary of his blog, and some dope emcee's showed face to help us all with the celebration... U-N-I went on first, which didn't happen until almost 1 am. I'm not complaining and am all for a late start, but I'm getting old and this was a f-cking Wednesday... Anyways, check out his first video of the fellas performing Cali Soul live with H.O.P.E. Be sure to watch it till the end to catch Y-O's breakdown MJ-style - this is why these guys are stars!!!
And, again, this is almost always my favorite part of U-N-I's live show! They brought out the homey Faahz the human beatbox to provide the beats and went in on some dope freestyles. Faahz is so ridiculous and I was asking him about his process, and dude said he only needs to hear something once and he can produce it back using only his mouth as an instrument... maybe a "pause" necessary, but dude is insane!
Then, the homey Chris Focus came on to shut the night down and he did not disappoint! He performed a newer track that I haven't heard him do live before called Get Loose. I dig the track and am still really taken with Chris' energy - it is what caught my attention about him the first time I ever saw him live and hasn't dissipated since...
Finally, dude reemed off an insane slew of bars off top before breaking into his smash Bop Like This 2.0 to close the show. This kid can really spit and I absolutely love this monster sample!
Many thanks to Eazee, Chris, Y-O, Thurz, and everyone else who came out to help us celebrate LA hip hop!
Peace,
-Breeze
